I should probably have called this post The Hunt for Dry October. Because since September, you can count the number of days without rain on your fingers. So it was something of a small miracle that during my Fall break, it was sunny and dry. The week started mild, with golden and burnt orange leaves whipped through the air by the wind. The same wind howled through the night, driving in a cold front that parked itself over the land for the rest of the week.
This meant cold, starry nights and candy-floss coloured sunrises. Frosty plumes of white when you breathe out; Prune and Suzi’s fur cold to the touch when they came in from outside. Blue, unblemished skies and brilliant sunshine, for our walks and bike rides. Earthy green fields with white flowers, burgundy bushes and fiery red leaves, still falling. The lake a deep and calming blue, brave sailboats flying over the water. By four, the sun starts to set, casting long shadows over the garden. Little birds sing and flit about the trees, half devoid of leaves.
All of a sudden, it is dark. It comes abruptly, not like the long, lingering dusk of summer. Silvery stars wink down from a charcoal sky. All is calm, all is quiet.
My hands are chapped, my nose is dry. But I love this weather and the pure, life-giving feeling that it brings.
FYI, the rain is back, and so is the start of another half-term 🙁 But I’m grateful for a lovely break from it all (weather and school) 😛 Lots of hugs xx
Awesome pictures, well taken. Enjoyed looking at them. Glad it’s a relaxing break from rain, needed it to take up the challenge till Christmas.
Thank you, yes it was a lovely break xx
Lovely photos, hard to believe that we live so close to all this beauty! Glad you had a good break – you needed that!
