Right now, less is more when it comes to travel. Luckily, Bruinisse and Zeeland in general is a pretty place to call home, and of course, with Prune and Suzi, there is never a dull moment. So I thought I’d share some photos and what we’ve been up to (since staying around home was my plan, anyway)…
March. After a wet and windy February (which I’m glad I missed most of in India), March really does feel more spring-like. There have been plenty of days of mild spring sunshine, enough to put freckles on your nose and a tan on your hands. The daffodils are out, a positive yellow against the green. There is blossom of pink and snow-white, there are birds that sing, the dawn chorus, with the blackbirds, the lead singers. The trees are still bare, but there are buds and the promise of more, from the whispering reeds on the banks of rivers, to the spacey clouds floating across the sky. There are daisies growing, and dawn comes sooner, starting with a pale blue light that spreads across the dykes and hills. Dusk lingers longer in pinks and reds, before loosing to the night.
Maya and I have done a lot of exploring; walking through woods full of birdsong, across dykes with views across blue-grey waters. We’ve laughed with joy at a frolicking wild Shetland foal, and watched in awe as his herd ran across the wet grass of their home. We’ve seen sunlight glinting on the water, quiet towns where blossom spills onto the cobbles.
Evenings. Prune and Suzi tired from being out all day, sniffing and lying in the sun. Us too, tired from the fresh air and daily adventures. Still cold enough, and dark enough to want to curl up, relax and now, more than ever I guess, be thankful.
Hope you enjoyed the first ‘installment’ of the Bru Diaries, look out for more little updates later on! Lots of (virtual) hugs xx
